Water Nitrogen Reduction Seminar
Water Nitrogen Reduction Seminar
Date: Thursday, March 22, 2012
Time: 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Location: Venice Church of the Nazarene in the Sanctuary, 1535 E. Venice Ave.,
Venice, Florida
Background:
About 30% of the State of Florida is on septic systems. Excess Nitrogen from existing systems can be bad for the environment. Stormwater runoff can also produce unwanted nutrients. Addressing these problems, the Lemon Bay League, a 501c3, is sponsoring this event with no charge to participants.
The following speakers will present their experience and current research test results:
Damann Anderson - “Nitrogen and Onsite Wastewater Treatment: Problems and Solutions."
Damann L. Anderson is currently Vice President with Hazen and Sawyer, P.C., and manages their Tampa, Florida, office. He is an environmental engineer with over 30 years experience in the areas of wastewater characterization and treatment, groundwater and surface water quality, and wastewater reclamation and reuse. Mr. Anderson has been a leader in applied research related to onsite wastewater treatment systems (OWTS) and to the impact of OWTS on water quality for 3 decades. He has authored or co-authored over 50 publications which have appeared in technical journals, in engineering manuals, and in conference proceedings nationwide. Damann received his B.S. degree in Engineering from Arizona State University and his M.S. degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Pio Lombardo - “Highest Nitrogen Removal Via Passive On-Site and Neighborhood Wastewater Systems and Groundwater Treatment Systems.”
Pio Lombardo, P.E., President of Lombardo Associates, Inc. (LA) of Newton, MA, has 40 years of experience with innovative decentralized wastewater management and Nitrogen removal. He has been the Engineer-of-Record for innovative decentralized wastewater with capital costs greater than $200 million that are operating throughout the United States. Mr. Lombardo has contributed to, and authored numerous EPA manuals since 1979, and has engineered individual wastewater systems and groundwater treatment systems that achieve nitrogen and phosphorus removal comparable to the sophisticated centralized wastewater treatment plant.
Pio was the recipient of the prestigious American Consulting Engineer’s Council Engineering Excellence Award, and was an Engineering News Record Construction Man of the Year candidate. Pio has an MS in Environmental/Civil Engineering from the University of Washington, and a BS Chemical Engineering degree, cum laude, from the University of Massachusetts.
